If anyone had told me three years ago I would be running a podcast show, I would have laughed out loud. For my background is not in media, but in science and software engineering.

Born in Nuremberg (Germany), I received my degrees in physics from the University in Hamburg (Germany). After a 3 years post-doc research appointment at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London (UK) I decided to move into the private sector as a software engineer.

But research called me again after nearly 20 years, when I took a position as Research Software Engineer (RSE) at the University College in London in late 2019.

Most research can no longer be done without software. And yet, the creation and maintenance of research software remains undervalued and the engineers doing the work unrecognised.

And so, in January 2021, I decided to launch this podcast to help and promote the growing community of software engineers in research and science.
